Implementation of Strategic Plan

ACT is on a journey to build an inclusive environment where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are celebrated and drive success throughout our theatre. Our Strategic Plan outlines the goals and the steps our Board of Trustees and staff will take together to achieve effective, equitable practices throughout our organization. This is a living document; we will update our website with additional action steps and progress.

Our Goal

Equity is integrated into every element of ACT’s practice and purpose.

ACT’s audience, staff, board and artists do not reflect the diversity of
our communities, specifically but not limited to racial equity; our
systems, practices and policies need to be examined to ensure they
do not present barriers to participation.
  • A clear case statement for why equity is a foundational goal has
    been developed and broadly shared
  • Our commitment to equity has been demonstrated and we have
    trained our staff and board consistently
  • Racial diversity of the staff, including leadership positions has
    increased
  • Racial diversity of the board has increased
  • Casting decisions reflect the wide range of diverse artists in our
    community
  • ACT’s audiences are more racially diverse

The Board of Trustees will support the effort and partner in achieving solutions by:

  • Continuing the EDI Committee efforts and educational
    activities for the full board, and integrating equity goals into
    each committee’s charter
  • Identifying multiple area organizations that specifically work
    with communities of color that we can partner with
  • Formalizing a nominating committee to oversee new trustee
    recruitment, with a focus on engaging Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC)

Staff will achieve the success indicators by:

  • Assessing Human Resource policies and procedures through
    an equity lens, implement changes/improvements for
    workplace culture, hiring, evaluations, and retention
  • Review audience demographics and establish metrics that
    measure the effectiveness of ACT’s engagement activities to
    attract a more diverse population
  • Commit to more diverse programming, casting, and hiring
    creative teams reflective of the community
