Please pardon our appearance while we update the way we welcome you to ACT, both in our building and through our website. We are excited to offer our patrons the modern experience they expect, with the warmth that ACT is known for.
ACT Theatre is working towards a major milestone in 2025: the Eagles Building will celebrate its Centennial and ACT Theatre will celebrate its 60th Anniversary. ACT renovated the building in the early 1990s and opened its second home here in 1996. 22 years later, the building needs an upgrade. Phase 1(A), “Front Door Update,” is a modest investment to show the community where we are going and that the future of ACT is bright, contemporary, accessible and exciting.
The Theatre plans to implement simple improvements such as paint and signage in the coming year, however we expect it to be several years before the full master renovation plan is executed. In addition to the aesthetics and function of the patron spaces, ACT plans to invest in a renovation of the historic façade and the replacement of many critical mechanical systems.
By 2025, we want the Eagles Building and ACT Theatre to be in the best shape ever!
The “Front Door Update” brings a new design for the Ticket Office and Scandiuzzi Lobby (formerly Union Lobby) that will include a clean, white color palette, large-scale graphics, a reorienting of the Will Call counter and reception desk, addition of digital signage across multiple screens, and an open and transparent view from the street. Construction takes place May 20-June 7 with the completion right before our production of Until the Flood.
ACT’s revamped website focuses on patron ease of use, with a design that makes it easier to navigate ACT’s many theatrical offerings and ticket packages. The updated content and navigation will provide information about shows and performers, and provide access for patrons to easily purchase, donate, and learn more about the theatre’s mission and vision. The updated website is currently under construction and will launch in mid July.

FAQs
How long will it take?
Phase 1(A) begins May 21 with completion in mid-summer. The full master renovation plan will be a multi-year effort. The Theatre hopes to have a significant portion of the work done on the building and the upgrade to the systems by the Eagles Building Centennial in 2025.
Is ACT in a capital campaign?
No, though through the process of strategic planning Board and staff will identify needs for financial investment. ACT regularly seeks funding for capital projects through foundation grants, public funding, and individuals who are passionate about the historic landmark building and our theatre spaces.
Is ACT changing any of the historic spaces in the renovation?
No. Phase 1(A) does not alter any of the elements protected by the historic landmark designation. The full master renovation plan does not involve major construction. The new designs update paint colors and add furniture that will make the spaces more inviting and functional for our patrons. Any changes to landmark protected elements will be made in partnership with the city’s landmarks board.
What else needs to be replaced?
The theatre is currently engaging in a strategic planning process. The building and its sustainability is a priority for the board and staff. While we are currently developing a comprehensive capital needs assessment, we do know that major projects include:
- Roof replacement
- Historic façade restoration: Terra Cotta tuck pointing, window and door repair
- Elevator modernization for three elevator cars
- Heating and air systems upgrade completion
- Technical theatre equipment upgrades
- Accessibility services
- Theatre carpets
- Administrative offices
Does ACT need help in this process?
Yes! Here are many ways to get involved:
- Join our Board of Trustees: If you are passionate about the building, have expertise in development of facilities, structural engineering, or historic preservation, we would love to hear from you.
- Provide Underwriting or Sponsorship: If you, your foundation, or your company are interested in sponsoring a portion of ACT’s facility improvements we would be happy to discuss how your name can be highlighted as a contributor to the 2025 vision and renovation.
- Donate Materials and Furnishings: If you have a connection with a supplier or a company with resources to help ACT in updating its facility we would be happy to connect with you to see if our needs are a good match for you to donate supplies or services.
