Running Time: varies by event

The Hansberry Project will once again partner with Pratidhwani, SIS, eSe Teatro, and ACT's Central Heating Lab to present readings of new work by playwrights of color. The festival features readings of two full-length plays and a local writers showcase.

Oct 3, 7:30pm: Pratidhwani presents Own the Moon by Vikas K. Menon
Two women, one Black, the other an immigrant from South India, briefly cross paths in the segregated South. Years later, on the day the U.S. first lands on the moon, their husbands meet in a maternity ward waiting room in Ohio. The couples form an unlikely friendship, negotiating their marriages, race, and childrearing in the waning years of the civil rights movement.

Oct 4, 7:30pm: Hansberry Project presents Zenith by Kirsten Greenidge
Inspired by the real-life story of a woman who drove nearly two miles down the wrong way of a highway, causing a head-on collision that killed eight people, including herself and her children. Zenith attempts to piece together the life of a woman who has bought into the idea of the American Dream. But somewhere along the line, her life goes horribly wrong.

Oct 5, 2:00pm: Local Writers Showcase
Featuring some of Seattle's best writing talent, including Robert Flor, Shontina Vernon, Maritess Zurbano, Shahana Dattagupta, and Anna LaMadrid. Audiences can get a sense of the range and depth of the work by attending this sampler, consisting of 20-minute excerpts from each play.
