Celebrating 50 years of friendship between Japan's Hyogo Prefecture, and Washington State, the Hyogo Business, and Cultural Center presents a night of enchanting Japanese puppet theatre from Awaji Island. Awaji puppets have graced the stage for over 500 years. The show includes "Ebisu-mai" (Dance Of TheFisherman God) and historical drama "Yoshitsune and the Thousand Cherry Trees". Awaji's Puppet Theatre has been tabbed by the Japanese Government as a Folk and Cultural Treasure. Special guest artist Katsura Sunshine guides viewers through a puppet demonstration, as well as Hyogo history and culture. HBCC is generously supported in this endeavor by The Consulate General of Japan in Seattle, The Japan Foundation, The Northwest Puppet Theatre, and The Washington State Arts Alliance.
